I was beyond thrilled and honored to be asked to sing at the Wildcat tribute concert at 54 Below on July 28th. Charles Kirsch, the producer, knew that my grandfather was in the show playing opposite Lucille Ball as Joe Dynamite, and so reached out to me to sing some of Grandpa's songs.
It was an unforgettable evening filled with nostalgia and talent. An incredible array of gifted singers came out and paid beautiful homage to Cy Coleman and Carolyn Leigh. Shoutout to Michael Lavine, our music director and accompanist for the eveing, who did an amazing job on the piano. I was especially excited to sing You've Come Home, a song I heard my grandfather sing many times while I was growing up.
He would play the Wildcat cast album in his car while we drove to dinner at any number of restaurants in Santa Clarita, singing along at the top of his lungs, getting strange looks from other drivers. As a kid, I always thought this was delightful. To be able to bring this song back to life was an honor like no other. I think I made the old man proud.
